Obituary of Elizabeth MacCallum
MacCALLUM, Elizabeth Jane Bowes, loving wife, devoted mother and longtime resident of Wyckoff, died Sunday, April 14th. She was 78 years old. Known to all those who loved her as “Betty,” Mrs. MacCallum was born on November 6, 1934 in Peekskill, New York. She was the daughter of Helen and Francis J. Bowes. After graduating in 1955 from Brown University with a degree in English, she married her college sweetheart, Doug MacCallum, and spent many wonderful years raising three daughters. She received a Masters in Education and taught for nearly a decade in the public elementary schools in Wyckoff, New Jersey and Lake Forest, Illinois. She touched the lives of many children as a lower school classroom teacher and as an aide specializing in reading. She later went on to a career in real estate, working with Murphy Realty and Coldwell Banker. Always active in her church and community, she sang in the St. Elizabeth’s Church choir in Wyckoff and served as Recording Secretary and a longtime volunteer for the Little Sisters of the Poor, Totowa, NJ. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Douglas C. MacCallum, Jr. and her daughters Jane Elizabeth Preziosi, Lisa Ann Miller and Martha MacCallum Gregory. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Leanne Bowes Miller, Katherine Bowes Preziosi, Jonathan Joseph MacCallum Miller, Benard Vincent Preziosi, III, William Douglas Preziosi, Elizabeth Bowes Gregory, Edward Reed Gregory and Harry MacCallum Gregory and son-in-laws Kevin Grant Miller, Benard V. Preziosi, Jr. and Daniel Joseph Gregory. Visiting will be held at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff from 6-8 pm on Tuesday April 16th. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff at 10 am, Wednesday April 17th. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor Auxiliary, 140 Shepherds Lane, Totowa, NJ.
